NSTC Joint Subcommittee on Ocean Science and Technology (JSOST)
Guiding National Ocean Research Investment: Public Workshop for the Development of the Ocean Research Priorities Plan
Workshop Agenda
The goal of this workshop was to solicit comments and suggestions from the ocean science communities on the development of the Ocean Research Priorities Plan. Planning documents were prepared by the Joint Subcommittee on Ocean Science and Technology (JSOST) to serve as a basis for discussion of theme priorities both during the public comment period and the workshop.
Participants at the workshop had the opportunity to discuss the development of the Plan through a series of small (30-45 person) breakout sessions. These breakout sessions were oriented towards group participation and interaction.
During the course of the breakout sessions, participants were asked to discuss the themes and cross-cutting elements in the planning documents, recommend additions, changes, or deletions to ensure that the topic areas reflect community input and consensus, and using that information, recommend key research priorities.
Using the recommendations from both the workshop and the public comment period, a draft Ocean Research Priorities Plan will be developed. The draft will be made available for public comment later this year.
